Xenormicola Hering 1928 TS = Xenormicola prouti

James S. Miller and Andrew V. Z. Brower
Containing group: Dioptini

Introduction

A rare genus occurring in the Andes from central Peru to Bolivia, represented in collections by just eight male specimens, including two additional undescribed species. Although immature stages are unknown, Miller (2009) hypothesizes an association with Chusquea (Poaceae), based on food plants of related genera.

Characteristics

Xenormicola shares several synapomorphies with Dolophrosyne and Scoturopsis, including short, porrect labial palpi and ciliate male antennae. However, the forewing discal cell is large, and the stridulatory organ is absent.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
