Introduction

Eleven species, type species: Microcorycia flava (Greeff, 1866, emend Penard, 1902).

Characteristics

Test composed of flexible membrane, aboral part like a dome, sometimes with concentric ridges or small horns at the dorsal side, covered with small debris or mineral particles. Test: bowl-shaped, brown, extends as membranous border at rim, pursed shut around body. Most species smaller than 100 µm. Pseudopods: lobate, through aperture. Ectoplasm: pale, at tips of pseudopods. Endoplasm: granular, yellowish to reddish, some species with Glycogen spheres (2 to 5 µm). One ovular nucleus. Cyst: external (Hallas, 1975). 

Ecology

Habitat: dry mosses. Feeding: herbivore.
