Josia frigida
James S. Miller and Andrew V. Z. BrowerIntroduction
This common species, as circumscribed by Miller (2009), occurs from Panama to southern Mexico. It was formerly conflated with J. radians from Colombia and J. fustula from Ecuador. Larvae have been reared on Passiflora costaricensis and P. quinquangularis.Characteristics
Josia frigida is distinguished from other josiines by two autapomorphies of wing venation: FW vein M1 arises from the radial sector distal to Rs1, and Rs2-Rs4 are arranged 2+[3+4] as opposed to [2+3]+4 in others.References
