Containing group: Nemotelinae

Introduction

All known Nemotelus larvae are aquatic. Nemotelus notatus from Europe lives in coastal saline habitats (Rozkošný 1998). Nemotelus is known from the New World, Africa, and the Palaearctic region (Woodley 2001). The described diversity is highest in the Palaearctic region, and there are likely many undescribed species elsewhere.

Characteristics

Flies in the genus Nemotelus are distinguished by their faces, which elongated into cones. They are generally black with white or yellow markings (James 1981).

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
