Introduction

This genus occurs in Orinoco and Amazon River basins.

Characteristics

Diagnosis

A genus of small to medium sized, armored banjo catfishes (up to 50 mm SL) distinguished from all other aspredinids by the following characters: tip of parapophysis of fifth vertebrae expanded; 2 sets of paired pre-anal-fin plates; and pectoral spine strongly recurved, much longer than first branched pectoral-fin ray.
