Chorisops

Keith Bayless
Containing group: Beridinae

Introduction

Chorisops is a genus of slender, metallic green soldier flies native to the Palaearctic region, China, and Myanmar (Burma). Numerous undescribed species are likely present in Southeast Asia (Woodley 1995). Chorisops tibialis forms mating swarms. Larvae of C. nagatomii were found in a muddy 'water meadow' along the banks of a stream (Rozkošný, R. 1982).

Characteristics

All known males in Chorisops have a long, slender process or lobe on the gonocoxites dorsal to the gonostylus (Woodley 1995). Chorisops marginata, C. separata, and C. unita are known only from female specimens, so their generic placement is uncertain as the putative synapomorphy of the genus is found only in males.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
