Introduction
A common species of Amazonian lowland rainforest, ranging from Venezuela to Bolivia and southern Brazil.Characteristics
Adults are dimorphic with respect to the size of the orange forewing patch. In one form the orange area extends in a bar to the anal margin of the wing (as in this photo), while in the the other it curves outwards towards the distal margin about half way between the costal and anal margins. Willmott (2003) suggests that this difference may represent allelic variation at a single locus, as there appear to be no intermediate forms.
Individuals of either form may be distinguished from other Adelpha species by the absence of white bands and the presence of two distinct white spots separated by dark outlines in the ventral forewing discal cell (Willnmott, 2003).
